  • Keuka Lake park backers get boost - Citizens trying to save land to honor Curtiss are given $500,000 check — A group of citizens scrambling to turn a wilderness plot along Keuka Lake into a public park honoring aviation pioneer Glenn H. Curtiss has raised half of the $1.35 million needed to try to seize the land from developers. A California charity sent a $500,000 check this week from an anonymous donor who, during a recent trip to New York's Finger Lakes region, read about the long-running feud over whether to preserve or develop the largely unobstructed lakefront in the time-warp village of Hammondsport.
